I know with Covid, there are lots of questions and whys when it comes to quarantining students and staff. I have two binders full and about 40 emails of protocols, guidelines and laws. Every case I get, I go over guidelines multiple times to make sure every decision I make is right and fair. If you have a question about anything such as why is my child quarantined but not this student, why is the sibling allowed to continue to come, or any other question you might have, please feel free to call me, text me or send me a message on social media. I’ll answer all questions to the best of my ability. Our main goal is to keep Kirby School District open for on campus learning as long as we can. Thanks~ Nurse Alissa

FALL PICTURE ORDERS: There seemed to be some confusion with picture orders, so I am going to have another order date. This fall, all proofs are digital. If you have an elementary child their teacher sent you an email at the end of September to the email you provided when school started. It included the proof viewing link and order form link and all my contact information. If you have a 7th-11th grader the email link was sent to their school email address to share with parents. If you can’t retrieve those emails, you can email me directly and I will send you all the info. Please don't contact school as they will just have to refer you to me. The new deadline will be Thursday November 5th. My email for pictures is ktmdphotos@gmail.com. Please include the child's name, grade (+ teacher if in elementary). Thanks, Kelly

ATTENTION PLEASE!

If your child fails the screening, you will receive a letter from me in the mail with information. Thank you! - Nurse Alissa

Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for October 8 from 2:00pm - 7:00pm.
Due to Covid-19 concerns, PTC will look a lot different this year. The Kirby School District admin team has met to formulate a safe plan that will follow all guidelines set forth by the Department of Education, CDC, and Arkansas Department of Health. We know that this plan is not conducive to what we have done in the past but with COVID-19 regulations in place, this is the best option we can provide.
Parents, with whom teachers need to visit for any purpose, will be contacted by their child's teacher by the end of the day on October 6 to schedule a time between 2-7 on October 8. This could be for academic, behavioral, technology, concerns, issues, etc If parents are not contacted, please do not show up without a scheduled time set forth by the teacher.
If a parent is not contacted and would like to schedule a conference meeting, parents will need to get a hold of the teacher via email, phone call, etc to schedule one.
Once again, I know this is out of the norm and not what we would like but our students, faculty/staff, parents are in the best interest of our school district in the decisions we make.

Progress Reports are available on Home Access Center (HAC)https://hac40.esp.k12.ar.us/HomeAccess40/Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2fHomeAccess40 . Accessing Student Information via HAC https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oXKe_hhvCGSCwHoLJrWbz2YJYlIum75HQNlns7cnKio/edit?usp=sharing

Papers will be sent home today with students containing information about the Trojans Health Clinic. There are some forms that need to be filled out and brought back to the school before we can see your child. There have been a few questions asked about it so here is a rundown:
Heather Funderburk of CHI in Glenwood will be on campus one day a week (maybe more during flu season) to see staff and students as the need arises. She will still be a full time APN at her Glenwood Clinic.
I will still be here full time as the school nurse. The clinic will be located in the room next to my office. Heather and I will work together to make sure every student and staff member stays healthy!
If you need for your child to be seen for any reason (sick, checkup, ADHD meds, injury, etc) you will call the school and speak to me or call me on my cell phone and I will set up the appointment with Heather on the day that she will be here. We have not set the day yet and it may change but I will post what day she will be on campus through our school social media accounts. The parent or guardian does NOT have to be present for your child to be seen.
If your child comes in my office sick or hurt that day for any reason, Heather will be available to see them. We will be able to swab for flu, strep, do urinalysis, and lab work. Every attempt to reach the parent or guardian will be done prior to seeing the child.
Please feel free to message me or call me with any questions or concerns you have. We are waiting on a few things before we can get started but we hope to open soon!

Important Information:
The road behind the high school/agriculture building is a privately owned driveway. Please do not use the road as an exit/entrance off of Hwy.84 or drive around the school to access Hwy.84.
Also, the trash bin at Kirby School District is for school purposes only. Please do not but personal trash in our bin.
Our Ready for Learning (RfL) plan is now available to view on our school district website under the COVID-19 tab. This is where you will find pertinent information that will constitute our day-to-day operations for Kirby School District such as bus procedures, screening, visitors, various learning plans, food service, etc. Please look it over to know what will be expected from our students, staff, and parents/guardians, and community members.

In an effort to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus within our staff and student body we are asking all parents/guardians, of students who will be in attendance on-site, and all employees to notify our designated Point of Contact immediately when the following occurs:
Someone in the household has tested positive for COVID-19.

Please call Kirby school nurse/POC Alissa Kelley at 870-223-2711, 7 days a week between the hours of 6 am to 9 pm, or email information to alissa.kelley@kirbytrojans.net. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Together we can help keep our Kirby School District family safe, healthy and ready to learn during this unique time.
I promise you that everyone at Kirby school is doing and will continue to do our part to keep students healthy and safe to continue learning on site. Please do not hesitate to call me or text if you have any questions. I can’t wait to see all the students on Monday.

We understand there are many uncertainties during this time and some of you may be feeling apprehensive about the return of students to school. It is natural to feel apprehensive when facing a challenge like this. We want to reassure you that we are following all guidelines and taking steps as outlined in our Ready for Learning plan. While we are taking the needed steps to provide a safe environment for our students and staff, we are also realistic and know that because everyone is susceptible, more than likely after school begins there will be students and staff members within Kirby School District testing positive for Covid-19.
This message is intended to inform the community of the procedure in the event of a positive case of Covid-19 within Kirby School District. The district has a Point of Contact that will be notified when a student or staff member has tested positive for Covid-19 or is being tested for Covid-19. Alissa Kelley is the point of contact for Kirby School District. If a student or staff member tests positive or is awaiting the results of a test, contact Alissa Kelley at (870)223-2711 between the hours of 6 a.m.-9 p.m. any day of the week (including weekends).
In the event that our district Point of Contact is notified of a student or staff member testing positive for Covid-19, the district Point of Contact will notify the AR Department of Health and determine a list of probable close contacts within the schools. The district Point of Contact is not a contract tracer so any contact tracing outside of the schools will be done by the Arkansas Department of Health. Probable close contacts are individuals that have likely been within 6 feet for 15 cumulative minutes or longer, within a 24 hour period, to a person who has tested positive for Covid-19 during the infectious period.
The probable close contacts will first be notified by the district that he/she is a probable close contact of someone that has tested positive for Covid-19 and will be told to quarantine for 14 days. The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) will then contact probable close contacts for further guidance and directions. Due to HIPAA/FERPA requirements, the ADH, the point of contact or any other employee of Kirby School District may NOT disclose the name of the student or staff member that tested positive. Again, if you are notified of being a probable close contact you will only be informed that you came in probable close contact with someone that tested positive, but you will not be told the name of the individual that tested positive.
The district will continue working in conjunction with the Arkansas Department of Health and will assess and determine the appropriate level of response for onsite learning. We can also use your help prior to the start of school. Practice mask wearing and proper hand washing with your student.
This school year will be challenging, but working together, we can provide a safe and secure environment. We look forward to seeing our students back on campus. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your student’s principal or the statewide Ready for School Resource Call Center at 1-833-353-6050.

Cheer tryouts will be September 5th at 10:00am. We will have three mandatory practices on September 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Practices will be after school from 4:20-5:30. Practices will be held in the Safe Room and the tryouts will be held in the gym. You can sign up in the elementary or high school office when school starts. Kirby School District will now start back to school August 24. Please be on the lookout next week for our re-entry plan.

Any student who wants to take concurrent classes this fall will need to have qualifying scores on the ACT, ACT Aspire, or Accuplacer. If you do not have a qualifying score on the ACT or ACT Aspire, students will have to go to UA Cossatot to take the Accuplacer test. Beginning next week, UA Cossatot will allow students to set up an appointment for placement tests in the De Queen or Nashville testing centers. Some important information is below:
Students MUST set up an appointment. Only 1 student will be allowed to test at a time.
Students can email testingcenters@cccua.edu to schedule their time.
Students will not be allowed to test for 30 days once they have tested due to the limited amount of testing we can perform at this time.
Students will be required to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer before and after testing.
If you have any questions please contact Brandi Tolleson at brandi.tolleson@kirbytrojans.net. Here is a list of qualifying scores on the Accuplacer test.
Students must have a concurrent form filled out with Mrs. Tolleson prior to registering for testing.

From Mrs.Tolleson:
Attention 9-12 grade students that have a textbook for your college class:
Please return your textbooks to school by Monday, May 18. Some of those are rented and need returned. You can leave them in the filing cabinet on the porch or return them to the superintendent's office. Write your name inside the cover so I know who returned them. Thanks!

Our last food delivery for the 2019-2020 school year will be tomorrow, May 11. Same times for bus delivery beginning at 9:30 and drive thru (10:00am - 1:00pm).

Kirby School District would like to give HUGE Thank You to the Class of 2020, their parents, the Kirby Community, the Pike County Sheriff's Department and our amazing administration for an amazing non-tradional graduation experience that hopefully, these Seniors will never forget!!!
CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2020!!!!

Tonight at 7:00 pm we will honor the Class of 2020 with a non-traditional graduation Drive Thru/Senior Escort. Due to the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, everyone that decides to attend the drive thru/senior escort will be required to remain in vehicles. The only individuals allowed outside of their vehicles will be the administration and the graduate for reception of the diploma and pictures. There will be Pike County Deputies to ensure that we are following the Arkansas Department of Education and CDC approved graduation plan. The non-traditional graduation will be live streamed on Facebook for those that wish to remain home. We understand that this non-traditional graduation ceremony does not replicate the true meaning behind a traditional ceremony so there will be a traditional graduation ceremony tentatively set for Thursday, July 23, 2020.

Congratulations to the 7 Seniors chosen to receive the Matt Turner Memorial Golf Tournament Scholarship in the amount of $500. Luke Cowart, Joce Mount, Trae Samuel, Ryan Franks, Blake Turner, Brandon Estrada and Lyndsie Golden.
The Matt Turner Memorial Golf Tournament is an annual event that allows our community to come together and keep the memory of Matt Turner alive!
Congratulations!!!

April 30, 2020
Over the past several weeks, we have sent out multiple surveys to our 2020 Seniors to gather their input on having a non-traditional graduation ceremony versus a traditional ceremony. After analyzing the survey results, we have concluded that having both options for our seniors is the best of both worlds. With that being said, Kirby School District will conduct a non-traditional graduation ceremony on May 7, 2020 at 7:00 pm with a drive-thru senior escort. We will also operate a traditional graduation ceremony on July 23, 2020 at 7:00 pm. Location will be posted at a later date.
The Governor and Commissioner of Education have mandated that schools cannot have a traditional ceremony until after July 1. At that time, Governor Hutchinson, Commissioner Key, and the Department of Health will reevaluate the social distancing guidelines and make a decision as to when schools can have a traditional graduation ceremony. Therefore, we encourage all the Seniors of Class 2020 to participate in the drive thru senior escort. The future traditional graduation ceremony is uncertain but our non-traditional plan was approved by the ADE and Department of Health. We also understand that there are many life events and activities that will take place this summer and the option for a traditional graduation ceremony may not be the best option for everyone. We encourage all graduating seniors to participate in both.
Guidelines and Information for Drive-Thru Senior Escort:
Students will each be required to have their own vehicle, and the only passengers allowed in their enclosed vehicle will be their immediate family. Seniors will meet at the baseball/softball complex at 6:40 pm dressed in their cap and gown to line up for the drive thru senior escort. Posters and vehicle decorations are encouraged to commemorate the senior and showcase their Trojan pride. Once on campus everyone must stay in their vehicles and adhere to the social distancing guidelines.
There will be a start/stop designated area in the drive thru senior escort near the rear of the gym for vehicles to stop before the next vehicle moves to the designated graduation ceremony area. This area will be patrolled by an administrator to ensure safety and social distancing guidelines are being followed. At the graduation ceremony area, there will be a table with the diplomas, a photographer, superintendent, high school principal, and counselor. The student will get out of their vehicle in the designated area for reception of the diploma and pictures. The graduating senior will be the only one allowed out of the enclosed vehicle to accept their diploma. There will be no more than seven individuals at one time in the designated graduation ceremony area.
We will have a designated area on our main campus parking lot that will be reserved for other guests to park. This area will be patrolled by Pike County Sheriff Deputies to make sure all guests adhere to the social distancing guidelines and are staying in their vehicles.
The non-traditional graduation ceremony will be live streamed via facebook for our community members who choose not to attend the drive thru graduation ceremony.
Those working the graduation ceremony (photographer, superintendent, high school principal, and counselor will wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves and N95 masks and will be screened using screening protocols prior to arrival. The PPE will be used when interacting with our students, faculty/staff, and immediate family members at all times. The administrators will wear gloves when handling and delivering diplomas. This will also be coordinated by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.
We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted many aspects of our graduating seniors’ lives and taken away many enjoyments as well. We want to provide an opportunity for our seniors to celebrate their long awaited accomplishments.
Sincerely,
Pike Palmer
Superintendent, Kirby School District

Since 1942, the Arkansas Girls State program has been working to teach future generations of Arkansans citizens to be actively involved in their communities and government at every level.
Because of recent events, this year's Girls State has been cancelled. It's still an honor to be chosen. Congratulations, ladies!

The food pantry is still going strong. We have had several individuals ask about donating and several that have gave monetary or food donations. It is still plenty stocked and we have the funds to keep stocking. The food delivery Mondays on buses and drive thru has helped so many families also. I can’t tell you the exact number we gave out on Monday but it was over 300. I have went with Mechelle on her bus route both times and I was good to see the Kirby kids. Everyone we have asked misses school and wishes to be back. We wave at them and tell them we miss them through our masks. Hard not to hug those sweet elementary kids. The food pantry is open to every Kirby student and their families. Please never hesitate to ask if you need help. We started this food pantry a few years ago never imagining that we would need it for something like this. I am so thankful we do. ~Nurse Alissa

It is with a heavy heart that I make this announcement regarding the rest of the 2019-2020 school year. During today’s news briefing, Governor Asa Hutchinson announced that all schools would remain closed for onsite instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Schools will continue to use AMI for instruction during this time of school closure. Kirby School District will continue to use a wide variety of AMI instruction and assignments for our kids throughout the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. We will continue to provide meals on Mondays via drive through at school or bus delivery so long as it is safe and allowable. Our food bank will still be operating. If you need assistance, please contact Nurse Alissa Kelley or Jaime Johnson.
At this time, all school related events excluding graduation will be cancelled or postponed to a later date. We will be working on a plan as an administrative team trying to plan for certain events that were cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19 virus. I am very sorry that prom, academic/athletic award ceremonies, field trips, and other events will be cancelled or postponed. As stated by the Governor, graduation ceremonies will be left to the guidance of the health department and at this point “very much in the air.” If and when schools get approval to reconvene, we will do our best to recreate those lost memories.
But for now, please practice social distancing and staying away from people if at all possible. The measures that the Governor has put in place are working. The only way that we can get rid of this virus right now and get back to normalcy is to not spread the virus. As you may have probably heard, Arkansas is dropping in regards to the ranking of the states from highest to lowest in the number of COVID-19 cases. We want to keep that trend going down. Please take care of yourself and your families. We miss seeing and interacting with our students.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Kirby School District at 870-398-4212. If we are away from our office, your call will be routed to one of our cell phones at this number.
Sincerely,
Kirby School District

We would like to honor Junior Tyler White for being voted on by teachers and staff to represent Kirby High School as Arkansas Boys State delegate.
Arkansas Boys State is an immersive program in civics education designed for high school juniors. Since 1940, the week-long camp has transformed the lives of young men throughout our state and beyond. These young men have gone on to become incredible leaders, including President Bill Clinton, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, and Senator Tom Cotton — just to name a few.
Unfortunately, like many other events, Arkansas Boys State has been cancelled for 2020. Regardless, we are proud of Tyler for being chosen and willing to participate in the week long

Monday, April 6 Kirby School District will be implementing a food/drink bag delivery via drive thru at school from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and bus routes beginning at 9:30 am. If you would like the food/drink bags, please visit the school during the allotted time or be at your normal bus route stop between 9:30 am - 10:30 am.
Regarding AMI assignments, teachers that are using Google Classroom assignments will upload AMI days 8-12 if they have not done so already. Also, last week we put in the front of the school filing cabinets for elementary and high school for hard copy AMI assignments. There are file folders with teacher assigned AMI assignments that can be picked up or to drop off completed AMI assignments.

Due to the COVID19 virus and with the guidance of Govenor Hutchinson, Kirby School District's buildings and offices are currently closed to the public. This includes our gymnasium.
If you have any questions, you can reach someone by calling 870.398.4212 Monday - Thursday 8am to 4pm. If your call is not answered, please leave a message and someone will be get back with you.

Reminder that today we will operate a drive thru at school from 11:00-3:00 and bus delivery starting at 12:00 for food and milk. Please either come by the school or be at the normal bus stop between 12-1 if you would like food and milk bags. Thank you!

On Monday, March 30 Kirby School District will be operating a food pickup drive thru beginning at 11:00 am - 3:00 pm for food bags at the school. We will also be running bus routes to delivery food bags at 12:00 pm. We will have bags filled with four days worth of breakfast and lunch food, milk, and juice. The bags are for anyone under the age of 18 years old. You do not have to be a student currently attending Kirby School District. If you want a food bag, please choose either the drive thru at school or be at your normal bus route stop between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm. We will be running all normal bus routes. We will ensure that the food, snacks, milk and juice are properly handled with staff who will be wearing safety gloves and masks. Our plan is to operate the food delivery plan for the next few Mondays until we hear of a decision regarding an extension of school closure or a return back to school.
If anyone needs additional food or meals, our food pantry is still operating strong. If you need assistance, please call Nurse Alissa Kelley at 870-223-2711 or Jaime Johnson at 870-279-2194.
Regarding AMI work, students should be working on AMI days 5-10 either by hard copy or google classroom assignments. We will have an updated plan in the middle to end of the week regarding the future AMI assignments and food. We know the COVID-19 virus has caused many interruptions into everyone's daily lives and we are doing the best we can to ensure our students are well cared for. We are missing all of our students and hope for the best in return to normalcy. Please take precautions in this this time of uncertainty regarding the virus. We want to see everyone healthy when we come back.
Sincerely,
Kirby School District.

4 family boxes went out this morning along with 4 yesterday. I am so thankful that we have the food pantry stocked and the funds to keep providing during this time.

It’s for anyone who needs help so please do not hesitate to ask. Nurse Alissa

Hello, this is Pike Palmer superintendent of the Kirby School District. As you may have heard, Governor Asa Hutchinson announced today that all Arkansas public schools will remain closed for onsite instruction through April 17 due to the increasing spread of COVID-19 across the state. The decision to close schools will be re-evaluated in a few weeks based on public health conditions at that time.
Digital instruction and AMI packets will resume March 30 after Spring Break.
We ask that you please fill out the technology survey found on our school website at www.kirbytrojans.net or Kirby School District Facebook page. This is very important as we plan and prepare to move forward in the upcoming weeks with our curriculum and instruction.
We will send out another email beginning of next week detailing our plan for the upcoming weeks regarding providing students and families with food, providing technology resources such as chromebooks, and AMI packets for those who do not have Internet accessibility.
These are unprecedented circumstances but rest assured we will do everything in our power to assist your family and further your childs education. Thank you for your continued efforts to support us in these difficult days. We are Trojan Strong!!!

The Student Internet Access Survey can be found on our Facebook page or by clicking "Explore" at the top of this page.

From the counselor's office:
The April 4 ACT has been cancelled. Those registered can switch their dates to June or July for $30, but you will be refunded in 3-5 days.
The Senior Showcase on April 16 has been cancelled. Because of our ever increasing crunch time, it's unlikely that it will be rescheduled. Scholarships will be announced at graduation.

For those who give or have given to the food pantry throughout the year, today was a reminder of how blessed we are with your donations. Along with the 50+ bags Taylor and I packed, I also sent out over 20 food boxes to Kirby families. Without your donations, we could never do this. Our food pantry is still stocked! If you didn’t get a bag or box and need one, please let me know. We have so many uncertainties coming up and lack of food shouldn’t be one of them. A few parents told me they were “embarrassed to ask” and I reassured them that this is exactly why we started the food pantry at school! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to those who give. #Trojannation

Virtual Arkansas students should check their kirbytrojans.net email for instructions and tips on how to access coursework from home. You have an email from Mrs. Jaime.
If you can't remember how to access your kirbytrojans.net email, please message Mrs.Jaime or Mrs.Jessica for help.

Per Governor Hutchinson's news conference, due to the COVID-19 circumstances surrounding our state, he has mandated all schools shut down beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, March 20. Schools have the option to close or operate on Monday, March 16.
Kirby School District will operate Monday, March 16 to allow our families to make arrangements for school dismissal and faculty the opportunity to make arrangements for AMI packets and or Chromebooks for those who have internet access available. If you choose not to send your child to school on Monday, please stop by between 12:00 pm and 4:30 pm to pick up your child's AMI packet and or Chromebook.
Kirby ABC and Kindergarten registration has been postponed for now. A later date will be announced as soon as we get back to normalcy.
Kirby School food pantry is open to all students and their families. Please contact Nurse Alissa at 870-223-2711 or on facebook if you need any assistance at anytime due to the school closing. If your child will not be here but you would like to have their bag of food and extra we will be sending home, please contact Nurse Alissa to make arrangements. You do not have to be signed up on the backpack program to get assistance.
School is to resume March 30. At that time, the state will monitor and reevaluate the situation. We will update as we find out. I know this situation is unlike any we have faced as a school and community. We will all work together to get through this successfully. Thank you to all of our community members inside and outside of our community. #TrojanNation

We would like to thank Sgt. Jones and the Army National Guard for feeding our staff at school this evening!!

As Kirby School District K-12 Nurse, my job includes providing health care through assessment, intervention, and follow-up for all students in the school. Along with the teachers and staff, we have only the students best interest in mind which includes staying healthy, staying in class, and having very little absences due to health related issues.
Sometimes it is in the best interest of the student, teachers and classmates that if I have a health concern, I will refer the child to be seen by a physician before returning to school.
ALL screenings that I do are conducted in a manner that respects the confidentiality of each student.
Thanks,
Alissa Kelley

On Thursday, March 14 during the regular school board meeting that was scheduled after the parent/community meeting, the Kirby School Board voted unanimously to implement a four-day school week for the 2019-2020 school year.
Over the past six months, there has been much discussion, research and surveys between administrators, faculty/staff, students, parents/guardians, and community regarding a four-day school week.
We feel there are many positives that will become of this decision for Kirby School District, our students, and our community. We also understand there are a few negatives as well but we feel the pros outweighed the cons.
There are many states and school districts successfully implementing a four-day school week all across the nation and it is our goal to become the first current school district to successfully implement a four-day school week in Arkansas. With any change comes apprehension and concerns but we will all work extremely hard together to make this innovative idea succeed. We will send out more information in the near future like school calendar, registration, and other pertinent information valuable to everyone. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Kirby School District

Kirby School District has teamed up with Apptegy and are proud to announce the release of the NEW and greatly improved kirbytrojans.net website. Our new website offers all the information that parents, students and teachers all will need!! We now have the capability to send out text messages and automated voicemails from information gathered from eSchool registration.
In addition to the new site, we are excited to have our very own Kirby Trojan’s app!! This is app is available for download in both Google Play and iTunes Store. This app will have all the information found on the website and much more!! If you turn on the “push notifications” in the settings, you will be able to get live updates as they are pushed out. This will be great for those who like to keep up with ballgame scores and for those days we might be out of school.
Both the website and app are linked directly to our NEW Facebook page. To help streamline and make things less confusing, we have a new Kirby School District Facebook page! Be sure to follow us there. Search for Kirby School District.
We urge all parents, students and staff to download the app!!! This will be a great way for our administrators to get messages and information to everyone a lot faster and more efficiently!
Thank you and Go Trojans!
Sincerely,
Pike Palmer
Kirby Superintendent
