We want to congratulate Saydee Johnson, Lauryn Rudolph, Natalie Driver and Karlie Hernandez for being chosen as delegates to Arkansas Girls State this summer. Arkansas Girls State is an immersive civics education program designed for young women who have completed their junior year of high school. Since 1942, the Arkansas Girls State program has been working to teach future generations of Arkansans citizens to be actively involved in their communities and government at every level. Because of recent events, this year's Girls State has been cancelled. It's still an honor to be chosen. Congratulations, ladies!

The food pantry is still going strong. We have had several individuals ask about donating and several that have gave monetary or food donations. It is still plenty stocked and we have the funds to keep stocking. The food delivery Mondays on buses and drive thru has helped so many families also. I can’t tell you the exact number we gave out on Monday but it was over 300. I have went with Mechelle on her bus route both times and I was good to see the Kirby kids. Everyone we have asked misses school and wishes to be back. We wave at them and tell them we miss them through our masks. Hard not to hug those sweet elementary kids. The food pantry is open to every Kirby student and their families. Please never hesitate to ask if you need help. We started this food pantry a few years ago never imagining that we would need it for something like this. I am so thankful we do. ~Nurse Alissa

It is with a heavy heart that I make this announcement regarding the rest of the 2019-2020 school year. During today’s news briefing, Governor Asa Hutchinson announced that all schools would remain closed for onsite instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Schools will continue to use AMI for instruction during this time of school closure. Kirby School District will continue to use a wide variety of AMI instruction and assignments for our kids throughout the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. We will continue to provide meals on Mondays via drive through at school or bus delivery so long as it is safe and allowable. Our food bank will still be operating. If you need assistance, please contact Nurse Alissa Kelley or Jaime Johnson. At this time, all school related events excluding graduation will be cancelled or postponed to a later date. We will be working on a plan as an administrative team trying to plan for certain events that were cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19 virus. I am very sorry that prom, academic/athletic award ceremonies, field trips, and other events will be cancelled or postponed. As stated by the Governor, graduation ceremonies will be left to the guidance of the health department and at this point “very much in the air.” If and when schools get approval to reconvene, we will do our best to recreate those lost memories. But for now, please practice social distancing and staying away from people if at all possible. The measures that the Governor has put in place are working. The only way that we can get rid of this virus right now and get back to normalcy is to not spread the virus. As you may have probably heard, Arkansas is dropping in regards to the ranking of the states from highest to lowest in the number of COVID-19 cases. We want to keep that trend going down. Please take care of yourself and your families. We miss seeing and interacting with our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Kirby School District at 870-398-4212. If we are away from our office, your call will be routed to one of our cell phones at this number. Sincerely, Kirby School District

We would like to honor Junior Tyler White for being voted on by teachers and staff to represent Kirby High School as Arkansas Boys State delegate. Arkansas Boys State is an immersive program in civics education designed for high school juniors. Since 1940, the week-long camp has transformed the lives of young men throughout our state and beyond. These young men have gone on to become incredible leaders, including President Bill Clinton, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, and Senator Tom Cotton — just to name a few. Unfortunately, like many other events, Arkansas Boys State has been cancelled for 2020. Regardless, we are proud of Tyler for being chosen and willing to participate in the week long
