🌟🎄 Kirby Shines at the State Capitol! 🎄🌟
We are proud to announce that Livi Smith, 6th grade, was selected to have her ornament displayed on the Arkansas State Capitol tree! Her design is showcased alongside ornaments created by other talented students from across the state as part of the Arkansas Celebrates America250 project.
This is a wonderful honor that highlights both Livi’s creativity and the pride of our school community. Families can visit the tree in the Old Supreme Court Room at the Arkansas State Capitol through mid‑January, or explore the full ornament gallery online at https://america250.ade.arkansas.gov/

🌿🐾 Conservation Leadership Spotlight
Yesterday, Kirby Elementary students had the opportunity to learn from Cossatot River State Park educators, who visited campus to share hands‑on lessons in animal identification and water quality testing.
🐾 Students explored Arkansas wildlife by examining animal furs, learning how to recognize species and understand their role in local ecosystems.
💧 They tested water samples to see how quality impacts both animals and people.
🌱 The program encouraged leadership in conservation, showing students how small actions make a big difference in protecting natural resources.
We are grateful to Cossatot River State Park for inspiring our students to be future conservation leaders and for connecting classroom learning with real‑world stewardship.

Kirby Senior Beta would like to say a special "Thank You" to everyone at Dougan's Oak Park for allowing us to be a small part of their Thanksgiving Meal for residents and their families. The library provided teachers with a pressed flower bookmark activity before the chaos of the holiday season gets underway. I failed to get pictures of my elementary teachers...I was talking...go figure!

Kirby Sr. Beta recently sponsored a "Socktober" fundraiser to benefit homeless shelters and warming centers in Hot springs. We originally had a goal of reaching 500 pairs of socks to donate. Today, we are so proud to share that we were able to donate over 1,000 pairs of socks to the Community Resource Center in Hot Springs! Our little town is always ready to help support our students and show them the true meaning of community! Thank you to all the students and community members who helped us "Pay it Forward" . As always, It's a GREAT day to be a Trojan!

🌟 Tremendous Trojans of the Week! 🌟 Let’s give a big shoutout to Daisy and Bristol, our Tremendous Trojans for the week! These two students have truly shown what it means to be a Trojan—stepping up with kindness, lending a helping hand, and setting a positive example for their peers. 💛💪
We’re proud of their leadership, teamwork, and Trojan spirit. Keep shining, Daisy and Bristol!

🌱Thrive Time
This Week, we combined our School of Conservation Leadership challenges with our Mental Health Counseling lessons! Our students have been challenged to have 50 (or more!) learning hours logged in the great outdoors in the 2025-2026 School Year. This week, Mrs. Melissa took her classes OUT, to discuss how we struggle WITHIN.
Did you know:
Studies show that being outdoors for at least ten minutes can help stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system? This means your "rest and digest" processors are going strong- Not leaving any room for "fight or flight" mode!
Being outdoors lowers cortisol levels- the stress hormone!
Natural Light and fresh air help stimulate serotonin production. It also helps us regulate our "internal clock". Feeling sleepier this week? Thank the good ole sunshine (or lack of)! The more time we spend in nature, the better sleep habits we develop.
Attention Restoration: The current generation has the highest numbers of Anxiety and ADHD ever diagnosed. What does this mean? Kids are constantly stimulated- screens, activities, constantly entertained, constantly "on the go". We have forgotten to just sit still, and BE. Being outdoors can help stimulate attention restoration- utilizing the five senses to notice sights, sounds, colors, and feelings. This can reduce overthinking. We found a very cooperative ant hill this week. Each class was able to observe how ants "get in a tizzy", when really there is no danger around (Scout's honor, no hills were damaged in our lessons!) Isn't it funny how anxiety can do the same thing to Humans? Often, we get "activated" before we even see what's actually going on! Hmm! What coping technique can help with this?
MINDFULNESS: Students were challenged to do a few different activities that required ZERO speech, just feeling and listening. We studied the natural areas around us and reported the sensations- and FEELINGS we had connected to them. It was tough, but kids CAN enjoy quiet nature!
We concluded that spending time in nature can be relaxing, and educational. We also concluded that we do not want to live like ants, with our 'stingers' out all the time! I encourage you all to try this skill this week. Take 20 seconds, close your eyes, and listen. What did you hear? What did you feel? Talk about it with your kids! Have a great weekend!
