Our staff spent the afternoon learning hands‑on strategies through the FINS (Fishing in the Natural State) teacher training program! This training equips educators with the skills and resources to bring outdoor learning, conservation education, and real‑world fishing experiences straight to our students.
We’re excited to expand opportunities that connect kids with Arkansas’s natural resources and inspire a love for the outdoors. Big thanks to the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission for supporting schools and empowering teachers through this program.

After a full week of ATLAS testing, our students wrapped things up with a well‑earned afternoon of fun. Classes spent time outside enjoying free play and a SNO cone.

Through strong student leadership, meaningful conservation actions, and school-wide involvement, our students are learning the importance of protecting Arkansas’s natural resources.
Representing Kirby Elementary, members of the Student Council presented this year’s School of Conservation leadership projects to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Check out some of the great work our students have been doing! 📸👇
We look forward to continuing this important work and growing our impact even more in the future. 💚

Kirby Elementary families, for student safety, please remember:
School doors do not open until 7:30 AM.
Students who arrive at 7:30 should go directly to the cafeteria and remain there until dismissed. A duty teacher is on supervision in the cafeteria during this time
Elementary Hallways and classrooms open at 7:40 AM, when duty teachers begin supervision.
For your child’s safety, please do not drop students off before 7:30 AM, as no supervision is available before that time.
Thank you for helping us keep every student safe each morning.
Grades 4-8 will be reading, Wink by Rob Harrell during our One School, One Book Project this year. Wink is about Ross, a seventh grade student who has recently been diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. We were blessed to have two former students who are always ready to give back to our school and community come and speak with our students as we began this project! . Dr. Mandi Ott came and presented slides to students showing the anatomy of the eye and the procedures required to treat this type of cancer. Dr. Ott also explained how those treatments affect the eye itself, but sometimes come with unwanted side effects, such as a permanent "wink". Nurse Practitioner, Heather Funderburk also presented to our students about her family's own experience with a rare type of cancer. Her daughter, Ella, was diagnosed a few years ago with a rare type of cancer. Heather shared that much of their journey has been public, but there was much that was private as well. Ella is now in remission thanks to the special type of treatment she received, but Heather encouraged students to always be kind to others, as we do not always know what is going on in the lives of those around us. Very good advice for us all! Thanks again to these Trojan Alumni for taking time out of their very busy day to speak with our students! #onceatrojanalwaysatrojan #OSOB

Yesterday we began our One School, One Book Project with grades K-8. This year we are actually reading two novels., one for lower grades and one for middle grades. Kindergarten - Third Grade will reading, The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney. The main character in the story is Humphrey, a hamster, who is the class pet. The library now has our own hamster and we will be having contest to choose a name for her very soon! We would like to thank Dr. Still from Nashville Animal Hospital for coming to present to our students about hamster care and facts that we needed to know! Dr. Still did a fantastic job and the students all enjoyed her presentation and we all learned some things we need to know to take good care of our new library pet! Parents be sure to encourage your K-3 student to read each day about Humphrey!

Our Trojans travel to Mt Ida for their conference opener! Let's Go, Trojans!!
